Blood:Water is an equipping agency that partners with African grassroots organizations to address the water and HIV/AIDS crises. We do this by identifying Africa’s hidden heroes and coming alongside their vision for change. We provide technical, financial, and organizational support so that African civil society organizations.

Lack of Water:

More than 300 of the 800 million people in sub-Saharan Africa live in a water-scarce environment – meaning that they have less than 1,000 m3 per capita per year.

66 of africa is arid or semi-arid

115 People:

115 people in Africa die every hour from diseases linked to poor sanitation, poor hygiene and contaminated water. Sub-Saharan Africa experiences a contrasting case with 40% of the 783 million people without access to an improved source of drinking water from the region.

THE CRISIS:

Fourteen of the countries in Africa experience water stress, and within the next few years, another 11 countries are expected to reach this critical point too.

At Blood:Water, our mission is to partner with African grassroots organizations to address both the water and HIV/AIDS crises. Even when we partner with an organization to address only water, for example, we concentrate our efforts in areas that intersect with a high burden of HIV/AIDS

Here are some facts about the HIV/AIDS crisis and how you can help the cause.

45%: Kingdom of eSwatini

The Kingdom of eSwatini is among the world’s most HIV-affected countries. Approximately 26% of people aged 15-19 and 19% of the population aged two and older is affected by HIV. This is one of the reasons for the increase in the number of orphaned and vulnerable children.

HIV-POSITIVE

Out of the 34 million HIV-positive people worldwide, 69% live in sub-Saharan Africa. There are roughly 23.8 million infected persons in all of Africa. 91% of the world's HIV-positive children live in Africa. More than one million adults and children die every year from HIV/AIDS in Africa alone people without access to an improved source of drinking water from the region.

THE CRISIS:

Due to an insufficient supply of antiretroviral drugs and health care providers in 2010, only 5 of the 10 million HIV-positive patients in Africa were able to receive treatment.
